WCI is the first organization to use artificial intelligence to systematically identify forensic and evidentiary issues in criminal cases.

The Wrongful Conviction Initiative (WCI) is an organization that uses artificial intelligence and forensic science expertise to identify potential wrongful convictions — and put that information in the hands of the people who can act on it.

WCI was built around a hard truth: thousands of documented exonerations share a common thread. Forensic evidence presented at trial was unreliable, discredited, or based on science that has since been overturned. Bite mark analysis. Hair microscopy. Outdated fire investigation methods. DNA interpretation errors. Bloodstain pattern analysis. These are techniques that put people in prison — and that courts and juries trusted more than the science warranted.

WCI's AI-powered review system analyzes submitted case materials, identifies forensic and evidentiary issues, and produces a structured Case Review Report for attorneys, families, and advocates to use in pursuing further legal action. Every report is reviewed by a human expert before it reaches you.

We do not determine guilt or innocence. We find the questions that deserve better answers.

WCI also offers WCI Defend — AI-assisted pretrial document review for individuals currently facing criminal charges. Visit WCIUSA.org/defend.
