WCI DEFEND

Your Case Is Active. Time Matters.

WCI Defend is an AI-assisted pretrial document review service for individuals currently facing criminal charges. If there are problems in how your case was built — we can help identify them before trial, not after.

TWO PROGRAMS, ONE MISSION

WCI Defend is not WCI.

The standard Wrongful Conviction Initiative reviews post-conviction cases — individuals who have already been tried and sentenced. WCI Defend is a separate service for active cases. Different documents. Different analysis. Different urgency.

STANDARD WCI

Post-Conviction Review

  • Subject has been convicted and sentenced
  • Reviews trial transcripts, appeals, habeas materials
  • Identifies forensic issues for post-conviction legal action
  • Standard timeline: 4–8 weeks

WCI DEFEND

Pretrial Defense Review

  • Subject is currently facing active charges
  • Reviews police reports, indictments, charging documents
  • Identifies defense opportunities before trial
  • Priority timeline for urgent deadlines

Who Can Submit a WCI Defend Case?

Defendants & Their Families

If you or a family member has been charged with a crime and you believe the evidence against them is unreliable, incomplete, or improperly obtained, WCI Defend can conduct an independent review of the charging materials.

Defense Attorneys

WCI Defend gives defense attorneys an independent AI-assisted review of prosecution materials — identifying forensic weaknesses, evidentiary gaps, and investigative leads before the case reaches trial.

Public Defenders & Legal Aid

WCI Defend is available at no cost to submitters. Public defenders and legal aid attorneys with limited resources are especially encouraged to submit.

SCOPE OF REVIEW

What WCI Defend Analyzes

WCI Defend reviews pretrial documents for issues that may affect the strength of the prosecution's case, including:

  • Police reports and incident reports
  • Arrest affidavits and probable cause statements
  • Indictments and charging documents
  • Forensic evidence cited in charging materials
  • Expert findings presented at the pretrial stage
  • Eyewitness identification procedures
  • Chain of custody documentation
  • Potential constitutional issues (search, seizure, Miranda)

If your case has a hearing, arraignment, or trial date approaching, note the deadline clearly when you submit. WCI Defend prioritizes cases with active legal timelines. Contact us directly at info@wciusa.org if your situation is time-sensitive.

DELIVERABLE

Your WCI Defend Report

Every WCI Defend case review produces a structured report that includes:

  • Analysis of charging documents for evidentiary weaknesses
  • Review of any forensic evidence cited — assessed against current scientific standards
  • Identification of investigative leads and records to subpoena
  • Potential pretrial motion opportunities
  • Referrals to defense attorneys and legal resources in your state if you do not currently have representation

WCI Defend reports are analytical tools — not legal advice. Always work with a licensed defense attorney. If you need help finding one, our report will point you in the right direction.
